NEW PROGRAM:
Feeding the Earth: Composting in the great scheme of things (A lecture/slide show):
Growing interest in composting may represent a shift in our relations to Nature of historic proportions. After a brief review of the basic science of compost, and its remarkable benefits, we step back to learn how farmers used the powers of organic waste in nearly every region of the world before 1850; the circumstances that led us away from this fundamental insight; and the costs of this disconnection. We then turn to the present and its possibilities for the future. While developments around the world are discussed, the focus is Southwestern PA, and on composting infrastructure and uses of greatest benefit. Learn why this is one of the most hopeful frontiers around, and how each of us can help move it in the right directions. Cost is $10 per person
Members of PRC receive a $5 discount on all classes. For more information on becoming a member of PRC or to register for any of the workshops click on the class titles above or call Sarah Alessio at 412.488.7490 ext. 236.
